REFLECTION

WORDS OF ADVICE
-
I would tell future cadets to be knowledgeable in the material taught in the classroom
-
Put all your classwork into a google drive folder
-
Take advantage of class worktime and the peer editing it is very helpful
-
To take everything your teacher says with gratitude they have more experience than you
-
Be as active and involved in the classroom as you possibly can, be proactive
-
Learn your student's names and get to know them
-
Be patient
-
Ask lots of question and take notes
-
Take pictures!!! Capture those moments
-
Most importantly have fun and enjoy your time there while it lasts it goes by fast!
MOST CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE
- I found it hard to kind of get involved and take on that teacher role like it seems to come so naturally to the teachers
- It was a little awkward trying to teach the class as a whole as I did not have that same relationship with the kids as my field experience teacher there is a weird tension
- I had a student who would often grab at me when I took his focus blocks (reward system) and had to repeat directions often to him it was hard to be patient and stay calm
- It can be hard to get the kids interested in routine activities
- It can be overwhelming when they have a sub and they only know you...they ask lots of questions. I found it hard to still do what I was supposed to be doing and answer all their questions/help them
- Sometimes all you get to do is sharpen pencils and grade papers...It is not all fun games/activities

MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE
The most rewarding experience was being able to work one on one or in small groups with the kids because you really got to know them and their personalities really well that way! I also actually really enjoyed when they had subs I feel like it gave me an opportunity to really be put in that leadership position and further learn what running a classroom is.
